The purpose of “Ego A-Go-Go!” is to attack, in a jocular manner, all the images in art history—and in life in general—that we do (or do not) realize are tainted with the cultural semiotics of the male gaze. We also accost the concept of identity, the means by which it is taken for granted, and the means by which it is over-obsessed with. We are creating false idols to parody what we have been raised by. This is TV by the not-so-Pop-cultured. This is entertainment–with a dash of abjection, destructive and constructive opinion, and sensory defiance. We are shifting the gaze from “drive” to “reverse” (and then maybe “park” or “neutral”). We are tearing the screen. LOOK OUT, WORLD!!!!!
KENDALLE FIASCO : Discomfort is good for the psyche. Convenience is bad for the intellect. Raw, naked, wordless experience, when successfully executed and successfully received, may lead to some wordless, awe-some, and perhaps slightly terrifying experience—terrifying in its unbiased honesty. I believe in disruptive de-contextualization. I believe in visual allegory, perverting the signs we take for granted in our daily, mundane lives. I believe in touching the raw and nameless YOU.
IRINA MAKAROVA : I wanted to turn my self destructive experiment into a dark joke. To display the intentions of the carnivores, laugh alongside and in the end pervert their perversions.
ERIC “EASY” ZHANG: “I’m only attracted to Asian guys.” “Asian girls are so hot.” “I only went out with you because you’re Asian.” Fetishism is racism, and racism is fetishism.
