Margins

February 3- February 13, 2010
Curated by Judith Schwartz, Klaus Burgel and Shida Kuo

Margins is an exhibition of work that features traditional craft media employed center stage. As a response to the ubiquity of technologically driven art there has emerged a countervailing awareness of the importance of the handmade, the crafted, the tactile. The artists profiled in this show share a dedication to craft materials and process using what are their most immediate tools-their hands. The works presented are made by representative students and faculty in the Sculpture in Craft Media Area and take advantage of the equipment, facilities and instruction offered in metal, fiber, ceramics, and glass at New York University. Their work will evoke and commemorate the long-standing traditions of craft, ideas and personal insights-simultaneously beautiful, clever, intelligent and/or purposeful.
